One of the games that managed to turn a few heads at E3 2013 was Ubisoft’s reveal of Tom Clancy’s The Division. Senior Community Developer Antoine Emond recently took some time to field a few questions gathered from fans on Facebook and Twitter about several aspects of the game.

It was unclear at first if this was an MMOG shooter, but Ubisoft has firmly planted its feet on the open-world RPG label, but the game does embody several systems from MMOGs. According to Emond, players will be able to form clans with friends and there is currently no cap on the limit of players that can be part of a clan. Unfortunately, he didn’t offer any details about possible clan/guild tools that will be available at launch aside from a planned set of web-based systems.

Given that the game is touted as an “RPG experience”, players will be able to create their characters rather than relying on a standard generated template that often comes as the shooter standard as well as customize skills, gear, and weapon sets. The option to jump in and out of co-op games with friends will be available and in certain areas it will be possible to seamlessly move into PvP conflict.

As it appeared in the E3 2013 demo, PvP will play a big part in The Division. Emond noted that a player’s decision as an agent in The Division will have an impact on the world and make you some friends or sworn enemies.

“Player vs. Player combat will play a very big role in our game,” Emond answered. The choices you make as a Division agent can either spur a recovery or plunge the city further into chaos. The people you meet in certain areas of the game can either be your best friends or your worst enemies. So you’ll constantly be making decisions that will impact the world around you.”

The Division is expected to launch on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2014. The possibility for a PC release has not been confirmed nor ruled out at this time.
