3.2 Heigan the Unclean (Naxxramas)

Table of Contents

Introduction

Heigan the Unclean is the second boss within the Plague Wing which gives him the title of being one of the most intensive encounters within World of Warcraft. All through the encounter you will face boiling acid from the floor requiring your raid to move to safe spots in a constant cycle in order to stay alive. Truly, a difficult battle for a very difficult boss.

Of course, as a note, you will have to go through kind of a suppression room like corridor to get to him. Be very careful, as the packs respawn when everything is killed within the pack. This leads to some killing all but on enemy of a pack and giving it a nifty raid icon above it’s head, then dragging it along away from the spawn (aggro range) then killing it.

Set-Up!

You only need one main-tank for this fight so feel free to balance out your raid, but be sure to bring your absolute best melee people. There is a lot of coordination in moving around the acid splashes on the floor.

Skills

Eruption (DANCE DANCE ERUPTION): Every couple of seconds the ground will erupt dealing 4000ish unresistable nature damage. It happens in a pattern (see this nifty flash animation for an idea of the pattern) so your raid will need to constantly move back and forth to avoid it. More in tactics.

AoE Mana Burn: Get close to him and you’ll get mana burned.

Decrepit Fever: Cleanseable debuff that lowers your max hp by 50% and applies a DoT that does 500 nature damage every 3 seconds.

Teleport: This fun skill teleports you into a tunnel where you have to run back to the raid. Slay any Eye Stalks that aggro you and just run from the grubs. Avoid the poison clouds.

Tactics

Okay, take a look at this nifty flash animation right here. If it isn’t up, then imagine Heigan’s room quartered off (four sections). There is a safe platform (you can see it) then four section that he’ll “erupt” in order moving from one side to the other then back again. You’re first wipes to Heigan will be learning how to move about the eruptions and where exactly it is safe to stand.

Phase One:

During Phase One Heigan will use all of his available skills. You’ll want your melee on Heigan (while your main-tank drags him around to each of the safe spots) while your casters stand on the raised platforms.

Phase Two:

Heigan stops using his skills and instead stands on the platform and makes the Eruptions faster. You’ll need to “dance” around the “dance floor” until he comes down (about 45 seconds). When he’s finished, he’ll go back to Phase One. During Phase Two no one can stand on top of the platform.

That’s it! He doesn’t do much damage, but not watching yourself can lead to a quick wipe at his hands. Most of this fight is positioning (avoiding the eruptions).
