TenTonHammer's Guide to The Stockades

The Stockades

The Stockades are Stormwind's underground prison, complete with guards and inmates. Warden Thelwater is in charge of the Stockades and can be found right outside the instance. He is currently looking for recruits to assist him in taking back the prison, since the criminal Bazil Threed led a revolt and seized control away from the guards.

The instance is meant for characters between level 23 and 26. You can continue to make loot and experience runs through the Stockades to about level 30, but after that the experience gains are not worth the effort.

The MOBs in the Stockades range from 23 elite to 26 elite. The quest MOBs are up to 29 elite.

Location and Timing

The Stormwind Stockades are located inside Stormwind city. The entrance can be found in the canal region right outside of the mage quarter near the center of the city. You can tell you are in the right area by all the guard patrolling the area.

The Stockades are a very small instance full of humanoid MOBs. While small, it does have many MOBs in it, and it likely take a group a little less than an hour to complete.

Maps and Gallery

To make getting around and finding everything easy in The Stockades, we have put together a map that marks the locations of all key named Mobs.
The map can be found here.

We have a gallery for screen shots from the Stormwind Stockades that can be found here.

Quests

There are 6 quests to be done in the Stockades. They can be collected all over the zones in the Eastern Kingdoms that you have access to. While reading the quests you may want to refer to our instance map of the Stockades for the exact location of the required MOBs.

What Comes Around... - Kill Targorr the Dread and bring his head back to Guard Berton in Lakeshire.

Targorr the Dread is usually located in the room at the north end of the main corridor in the stockades. He is marked on the map with the red marker. Please note however that he can occasionally be in any of the rooms in the main corridor.

The Fury Runs Deep - Kill Kam Deepfury and bring his head back to Motley Garmason in the wetlands.

Kam Deepfury is usually located in the first room to the North in the East wing of the Stockades. He is marked on the map with the purple marker. Please note however he can occasionally be in any other room in the east wing.

The Stockade Riots - Kill Bazil Thredd and bring his head back to Warden Thelwater.

Bazil Threed is located in a room at the end of the East wing of the Stockades. He is marked on the map with the pale blue marker.

Crime and Punishment - Kill Dextren Ward and bring his hand back to Councilman Millstipe.

Dextran Ward is located in a room at the end of the West wing of the stockades. He is marked on the map with the yellow marker.

Quell the Uprising - Warden Thelwater wants you to kill 10 Defias Convicts, 8 Defias Insurgents and 8 Defias Prisoners.

The various Defias MOBs can be found throughout the Stockades. If you are completing all of the other quests, there will be no reason to go looking for them. Clear each room and you easily kill enough of each MOB to complete the quest.

The Color of Blood
- Nikova Raskol wants you to collect 10 red wool bandanas from the Defias members in the Stockades, and then return them to her.

As with the Quell the Uprising quest, the various Defias MOBs can be found throughout the Stockades. If you are completing all of the other quests, there will be no reason to go looking for them. Clear each room and you should get enough bandanas to complete the quest. If all 5 members of the group are trying to complete the quest it may take a few runs through the instance, but if just 1 or 2 are completing it, you will get enough easily.

Tactics

The Entrance

Being a low level and small instance tactics are fairly easy to master in the Stockades. More than anything I suggest practicing basic group tactics over anything specific to the Stockades. There are a few exceptions that I will note below, but generally, normal smart play should get you through without any real issues.

The MOBs in the Stockades range from 23-26 elite and are generally found in groups of 2, with the occasional group of 3 or 4. Some of the MOB groups are places close together though and wander in a small pattern. If pulled at the wrong time a pull of 2-3 could turn into a pull of up to 6! As well as placed MOBs there are patrols that wander the hallways that you need to be careful of.

Being a level 23-26 instance, with the MOBs being 23-26 elite you will have to work together as a team. Most players in the correct level range will not be able to handle an elite MOB of their level or higher on their own. The best tactic to deal with this is to designate a single player to pull MOBs and be careful to not pull anything other than what is planned. If you are the puller always plan the pull carefully. This means, watching for patrols, movement of MOBs, and party health and mana. If you do these things even a party of all 23-24 characters stands an excellent chance at finishing the instance.

The key tactical issues to keep in mind for this specific instance is careful pulling and crowd control. It is critical that as you clear each room you pull the MOBs back into a clear area. You also need to make sure you pull them back far enough so that a runner does not get away and pull back an additional 3 or 4 MOBs from one of the side rooms. You should make use of any method you have from keeping enemy mobs from fleeing when they are ready to die. This means making use of curse of recklessness, hamstring, and any others you have. Your group should also at least limit (if not ban altogether) the use if any fear effect that will send a MOB running.

Boss Fights

Kam Deepfury

Being a very early level instance there are no real tricks to any of the bosses. They are all fairly straightforward fights that just require tanking and aggro management by the group.

The only real issue with any of the bosses is that Dextran Ward causes fear. This makes it critical that you follow all the tactics listed above about clearing the area even more important to follow when around him. You should also try to pull him apart from the other MOBs in his room and take him to the opposite side of the large round room so that you are not likely to run into the room with MOBs remaining when a party member is feared.

Loot found in the Stockades

We now get to probably the main reason you are in the instance, the loot. However, there are not that many great drops in the Stockades. Being a short fast instance, it is more about getting experience than loot. The main MOB you will be looking for loot wise is Bruegal Ironknuckle, a dwarf found in the back half of the instance.

Bruegal Ironknuckle

Iron Knuckles
Fist Weapon
Speed 3.60
19 - 36 Damage
(16.5 damage per second)

Chance on hit: Pummel the target for 4 damage and interrupt the spell being cast for 5 seconds.

Jimmied Handcuffs
Mail - Wrist
89 Armor
+3 Strength
+7 Stamina

Prison Shank
Dagger
Speed 1.80
21 - 39 Damage
(16.7 damage per second)
+5 Agility
+2 Stamina

Conclusions

This is a small fun instance that many player run to quickly get some experience. While it is thought of as an Alliance only instance, Horde can zone into it if they can make their way to it. In fact it is a lot of fun making your way to it as a Horde player and many do so as a challenge.

While none of the loot is all that great, it is still worth running it for the quests and MOB experience gains.
