Leatherworking 1-375 Leveling Guide

We present for your reading pleasure a guide on the best way to “power” skill to the Leatherworking profession in World of Warcraft. We've found the recipes with the least amount of materials so that you can level quickly! And, outside of the Outland recipes, all of these recipes can be obtained from trainers!

Before you decide that maxing Leatherworking is for you, prepare yourself for some serious expense. Figure out if this really is the profession that you want. The first step is getting from skill level 1 to 300. To do this will take in the neighborhood of 500 gold in supplies, so be prepared.

Once you reach 300, things are just getting started. The trip from 300-375 is at least 10x harder and can be up to 10x more expensive as well! Depending on your server you could pay up to 5000 gold for the mats to hit skill level 375. On most servers it will end up costing you around 3,000 to 4,000 gold unless you spend a long time farming on your own.

For the skill 1 - 300 trip you will need the following ingredients:

• 275 Light Leather
• 20 Light Hide
• 75 Salt (obtained from vendors at a cost of 50c each)
• 110 Coarse Thread (obtained from vendors at a cost of 10c each)
• 25 Medium Hides
• 100 Fine Thread (obtained from vendors at a cost of 1s each)
• 25 Gray Dye (obtained from vendors at a cost of 3s, 50c each)
• 10 Heavy Hide
• 410 Heavy Leather
• 75 Black Dye (obtained from vendors at a cost of 10s each)
• 160 Silken Thread (obtained from vendors at a cost of 5s each)
• 20 Bolts of Silk Cloth (made by tailors)
• 10 Iron Buckles (made by blacksmiths)
• 565 Thick Leather
• 400 Rugged Leather
• 40 Rune Thread (obtained from vendors at a cost of 50s each)

For the trip from 300 to 375, you will not be able to get all of your recipes from the trainers. We focus on recipes that you can get from trainers, vendors and as reputation rewards. Remember, these are not the only recipes available, they are simply the ones that will help you get to 375 the fastest.

You will need the following materials for skill of 300-350:

• 4100 Knothide Leather Scraps (this is because the least amount of Knothide Leather you will need, depending on which rep paths you choose, will be 820. It takes 5 Knothide Leather Scraps for each Knothide Leather).
• 105 Rune Thread (obtained from vendors at a cost of 50s each).
• 45 Fel Scales

For 350-355 you need the following materials (based on which reputation item you produce):

Scryer Rep

• 20 Heavy Knothide Leather
• 50 Fel Scales

Consortium Rep

• 50 Heavy Knothide Leather
• 40 Fel Hides
• 40 Primal Shadow
• 50 Rune Thread (obtained from vendors at a cost of 50s each).

For 355-365:

• 40 Heavy Knothide Leather
• 200 Thick Clefthoof Leather
• 40 Primal Earth
• 20 Rune Thread (obtained from vendors at a cost of 50s each).

For 365-375 you need the following materials (based on which reputation item you produce):

Thrallmar/Honor Hold Rep

• 40 Heavy Knothide Leather
• 40 Cobra Scales
• 80 Primal Air
• 10 Primal Nether

Sha'Tar Rep

• 20 Heavy Knothide Leather
• 10 Primal Fire
• 10 Primal Earth

It may be a wise idea if you’re level 70 to farm for a lot of the materials yourself to save on the very expensive costs. However if you have the gold, buying in the auction house will save you a significant amount of time.

Armor kits are the best to start out with because they are cheap and give you good gains to begin with. 25-65

Cured Light Hide

Light hides can be a bit hard to find, but you'll only need 20 of them. Salt can be bought from the vendor for 50 copper. 55-75

Embossed Leather Gloves

3x Light Leather
2x Coarse Thread

You can make these until 85, but don't forget to train for your Journeyman skill before you hit 75. These are good for skill ups, but unless you know someone who might want them, they're good to vendor - get some of that copper back.

Embossed Leather Gloves

Same as stated above. Vendor these to get some copper back.

85-100

Fine Leather Belt

6x Light Leather
2x Coarse Thread

These will be needed for another item, so keep them. 100-120

Cured Medium Hide

1x Medium Hide
1x Salt

You will need a total of 25 of these for another item, so hang on to them. 120-125

Fine Leather Belt

6x Light Leather
2x Coarse Thread

You will need 10 more of these (for a total of 25). So keep a hold of these. 125-150

Dark Leather Belt

25x Fine Leather Belt
1x Cured Medium Hide
2x Fine Thread
1x Gray Dye

Now you get to use those fine leather belts and cured medium hides you were saving. These might sell on the AH, but I wouldn't anticipate too much for them.

Ten of these will be used for another item, so save them. 160-170

Heavy Armor Kit

5x Heavy Leather

These are useful and may sell for an o.k. amount on the auction house. 170-180

Dusky Leather Leggings

10x Heavy Leather

2x Fine Thread

Now you're really starting in on making actual armor. This is where things start getting expensive. 180-190

Barbaric Shoulders

8x heavy leather
1x Cured Heavy Hide

Here's where you get to use those Cured Heavy Hides you saved. 190-195

Dusky Leather Bracers

16x Heavy Leather
1x Black Dye
2x Silken Thread

You can actually start making these at 185, but since the shoulders cost less to make, you'll want to hold off on making these bracers until you just have to. These will get you to 195 at which point you can start the next item. 195-205

Dusky Belt

10x Heavy Leather
2x Bolt of Silk Cloth
2x Black Dye
1x Iron Buckle

You'll need to find a blacksmith and a tailor to help you out with the buckles and bolts. They should be on the auction house if you don't know any. 205-225

Nightscape Headband

You can make these until 230, but don't forget to train for your Artisan skill before you hit 225.

Notice that the bracers take the same mats as the gauntlets. You should make the gauntlets for as long as you can, then start on bracers. 280-300

The Burning Crusade

At this point, things are going to get expensive. In order to get to the coveted 375, you will need a lot of farming, a lot of rep grindiing, and a lot of gold.

Knothide Leather

Since you are going to need a lot of Knothide Leather for future projects, you'll want to make these until 310 and then save them for future use. 310-325

Knothide Armor Kit

These are pretty good armor additions and a very cheap way to get 15 points of leatherworking skill. You could choose to make Wild Draenish Gloves of Thick Draenic Boots for a few of the points if you are going to use either of them, but I would suggest just sticking to the armor kits. 325-335

Heavy Knothide Leather

5x Knothide Leather

You can buy this recipe from leatherworking suppliers. There is one in Shattrath, one in the Exodar, and one in Silvermoon City that sells this recipe. You will need a lot of this for future items, so keep all that you make! 335-340

Thick Draenic Vest

14x Knothide Leather
3x Rune Thread

Another set item, and one of the last (relatively) cheap items to make. 340-350

Felscale Breastplate

14x Knothide Leather
3x Fel Scales
3x Rune Thread

This is a great hunter item and part of a set, so you should try to sell this on the Auction House. The scales will take some farming to get, but it's worth it for the gains.

Reputation Items

At this point, the trainer will not be selling you any more patterns, you need to earn access to them through the various factions in the Outlands

This requires Honored reputation with the Consortium, and a ton of primal shadows. The best place to gather these for me has been the demons in Shadowmoon.

This requires an Exalted reputation with Thrallmar or Honor Hold. You can make these until 375. They are in high demand and sell well. After making these, congratulations on completion of your leatherworking!

Sha'tar Rep

1x Primal Earth
