With Patch 4.2 on the horizon
one of the big things on
player’s minds is what
exactly must
they do to get into the Firelands? Well this writer can tell you that
as excited as you may be to break into this new zone, it
won’t be happening the day Patch 4.2 releases but it can be
done. Read on to find out how!

When you enter Hyjal you will
find the Guardians of Hyjal desperately attempting to push back the
allies of Ragnaros and they need your help in the form of a series of
all new daily quests. Taking place in the Regrowth and eventually the
Molten Front, players must be at least level 85 and have completed
Mount Hyjal up to and including the quest Aessina’s Miracle.
Once this quest has been completed players need only to head over to
the Sanctuary of Malorne to begin to the quest chain that will
eventually lead to the Firelands. Below you can find the details of
that chain and the resulting daily quests up to the
Firelands.

style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic; text-align: center;">**Warning!
Possible Spoilers Below!!**

Unlocking the Firelands

To unlock the new daily quests
in the Regrowth and eventually open the portal to the
Firelands,  players will need to complete the
following quest chain starting at the
Sanctuary of Malorne:

-
A Ritual of Flame

  • style="font-weight: bold;">Guardians of Hyjal
    Reputation Gained: style="font-style: italic;"> style="font-style: italic;">10 style="font-style: italic;">

To complete this quest
players will need to simply hop on their flying mounts and head over to
Nordune Ridge, just north of the Sanctuary of Malorne. There you will
find many Guardians of Hyjal fighting in front of a glowing portal
which is spewing forth minions of Ragnaros. A little ways away from the
portal you will find Arch Druid Hamuul Runetotem standing next to
Malfurion Stormrage and Captain Saynna Stormrunner. Speak to Runetotem
to turn in this quest.

A Ritual of Flame

Fight the waves of Charred Invaders on Nordune Ridge until the portal is opened.

  • style="font-weight: bold;">Questgiver: Arch Druid Hamuul Runetotem
  • style="font-weight: bold;">Guardians of Hyjal
    Reputation Gained: style="font-style: italic;">250

In order to open the
portal you must help the Guardians hold off Ragnaros’s allies
lest they disrupt it. Once this quest has been accepted a red bar will
appear in the middle of the player’s screen. The bar then
progressively fills as the ritual goes on and enemies are defeated.
While the description of this quest suggests a wild melee, it turns out
to be far from it. A minimal number of fire elementals will come forth
from the portal, and the Guardians will lend more than enough aid for
players to simply sit back and watch if they so wished. Once the bar
has been totally filled an explosion will occur and a former druid
named Leyara, a boss of sorts, will emerge. Help the Guardians pummel
her down and eventually she will make a last minute escape. After
Leyara’s escape, the quest will be complete. Speak to the
Arch Druid to turn in this quest.

The invasion plan has
backfired and several of the druids have been caught unawares and since
they apparently never took the time to learn bird form have found
themselves stranded. You must seek them out and help them escape. See
the map to the side for the location of each of the druids. Once you
have located a druid, you will find them engaged in battle with fire
elementals.

The elementals will usually spawn in small groups and
instantly
aggro to the druids so don’t worry about becoming
overwhelmed. Simply pick an elemental (or several if you are feeling
brave) and kill them off. Defeat 6 elementals near each druid to
complete this quest, then return to Hamuul Runetotem at the Sanctuary
of Malorne to turn in the quest.

Players will receive their first 3 [Marks of the World Tree] as a
reward for completing this quest. [Marks of the World Tree] can be
found and tracked in the Currency tab. These Marks will come in to play
later in the quest line.

Bad news, the forces of
Ragnaros have overrun the Sanctuary of Malorne, and the Guardians of
Hyjal are close to becoming overwhelmed. Malfurion has a plan that
could save them all. He will attempt to resurrect Malorne to protect
the sanctuary, but it will take some time. To complete this quest you
must guard Malorne from the attacking elementals which will allow him
to complete the ritual. Hold the invaders off for a minute or so,
ignoring the giant stomping towards you, and focusing only on the
smaller more manageable elements, and Malorne will be resurrected. A
small cut scene will play and this quest will be complete. Turn in to
Malfurion Stormrage. Players will gain an additonal 5 [Marks of the
World Tree] with the completion of this quest.

Despite heavy losses all
is not lost, and the Guardians of Hyjal plan to make one final attempt
to break into the Firelands, but before they can even attempt it they
will need some reinforcements to replenish their ranks. It is your job
to work with Matoclaw to obtain enough resources (20 Marks of the World
Tree) to afford reinforcements. You should already have 8 Marks at this
point from the previous quests (Marks of the World Tree can be viewed
in the Currency Tab). To collect the rest you will need to complete the
two available daily quests offered by Matoclaw until you reach 20. Each
daily quest awards 1 or 2 Marks of the
World Tree.

After 20 [Marks of the World Tree] have been gathered and this quest
has been completed the quest "Leyara" will open up, continueing the
quest line towards opening the portal to the Firelands.

Before the Guardians (and
yourself) are able to depart for the Firelands there is one matter that
needs attended to. Leyara, the Druid of the Flame who emerged from the
portal during the first effort to enter the Firelands must be sought
out and taken care of. She can be found in the ruins to the northwest
of the Sanctuary, use your in game quest helper to guide you. Leyara
will be neutral when you first find her, speak to her and follow along
with her story. At the end you will be chained and will be doomed to
watch helplessly as Arch Druid Hammual Runetotem meets a grisly end.
One thing is for certain, Leyara must pay. Report back to Matoclaw for
further instructions. Once this quest has been turned in another quest
will appear from Malfurion Stormrage.

have to come later. Now is the time to strike. The reinforcements are
prepared and Malfurion wants you to join him in securing a foothold in
the Molten Front. Go back to Nordune Ridge and pass through the portal
where you will find the druids engaged in battle. Help Malfurion and
the other druids defeat the Obsidian Slaglord to complete this quest.
Be warned, this guy has a nasty ground spike attack so avoid the pools
of lava that will appear under your feet from time to time, and make
sure to make good use of the druids mass healing spell. Speak to
Malfurion  inside the Sentinel Tree when the battle is done.

Congratulations on breaking
into the Firelands!

After completing all of the
above mentioned quests two daily quests will become immediately
available to you. Each of these initial dailies will award the player
with 1 [Mark of the World Tree], however don’t be discouraged
with your progress towards reaching 20 marks, you will get there faster
than you think. Blizzard has introduced a new daily quest
mechanic into
4.2; the chain daily. This means that
from time to time, one of the
daily quests will immediately chain into another quest, usually a
collection type quest followed by a second quest to use what you have
collected to kill an elite.

So keep plugging forward and
doing the dailies offered to you each day. After you have obtained 20
[Marks of the World Tree] it will be time to turn in Calling for
Reinforcements. Speak to Arch Druid Hamuul Runetotem to do so. Once
this quest has been turned in you will gain access to the quest href="http://www.tentonhammer.com/wow/guides/general/unlocking-the-firelands"
target="_blank"> Leyara
and eventually find yourself on your next great adventure into the
Firelands.

Below you can find a listing of
the daily quests available at the Sanctuary
of Malorne before the
Firelands portal is opened:

This daily is simple,
head out into the Regrowth (as indicted on the map to the right) and
kill any of the hostile creatures you find there. Once they have been
defeated, target the corpse, and use the Fang on the Wolf by right
clicking it. All mobs are level 85 and as such should be approached
with caution. Use the Fang of the Wolf on 10 enemy corpses to complete
the quest then return to Matoclaw at the Sanctuary of Malorne. This
quest awards 1 Mark of the World Tree upon completion.

[PROTIP]You
can use the
Fang of the Wolf on mobs killed by the patrol of friendly NPCs that
roam the area, even if you do not participate in the kill.[/PROTIP]

To complete this quest
players will need to seek out the portal found north east of the
Sanctuary of Malorne. This portal is red and not to be confused with
the blue portal leading to the Hatchery also found nearby. Once there
use the Fang of the Wolf to issue the challenge. Soon after using the
item Lylagar, a very angry corehound, will appear from the portal. Be
wary as Lylagar is a level 85 elite mob, however he can easily be
soloed and is especially vulnerable when casting and spewing forth his
flame breath, be sure to use it to your advantage!

If it wasn’t
obvious, one of the biggest threats to the druids fighting in the
Firelands will be dehydration. While canteens have been prepared, it
never hurts to have a little extra water along just in case. To
complete this quest you must seek out the Blueroot Vines located in the
green thickets found around the Sanctuary.

[PROTIP]Herbalists can
use track herbs to see the Blueroot Vines on their minimap.[/PROTIP]

These vines resemble Earthroot and can be found in the same in the same
general locations, nestled under trees and other shrubs, making this
plant somewhat difficult to spot even with the distinctive quest item
sparkles surrounding it. Collect 7 of the Blueroot Vines to complete
the quest then return to Matoclaw. This quest will award the player 1
[Mark of the World Tree].

Spirit fragments of
Malorne, appearing as ghostly white deer, can still be found throughout
the surrounding forests. These pieces of the deity’s spirit
may be of use. All players must do is seek out these spectral deer and
walk close to them. I personally stood in one place and simply let the

It appears that the portal that was opened in the east is guarded by a
powerful flame walker named Galenges. Seek out the portal, which is

the Hatchery. Once there you will see a sparkling pile of ash directly
in front of the portal. Plunge  the Guardian’s Staff
into the ash by right clicking it and Galenges will immediately emerge
from the portal. Galenges is a level 85 elite, but don’t
worry, Malorne will show up and give you some much needed aid,
increasing your damage by huge amounts. Use these periods to your
advantage and Galenges will fall easily beneath your feet.

Mylune loves baby
turtles, and is distraught that many of the tiny creatures will not be
able to escape the fire creatures. She wants to recruit you to help
save them in one of the most entertaining quest lines I’ve
personally ever participated in. Your mission is to pick up the
turtles, and then punt their cute little tushies back into the water of
Ashen Lake.

So head north west of the Sanctuary to the area designated by your in
game quest helper and seek out the tiny turtle babies there. Right
click to pick up the turtle, and your screen will be transformed into
something similar to a vehicle bar as seen in the picture below. Once
this screen appears you will find two options on the bar, the first is
to punt your turtle and the second is to put the turtle down. Forget
about option two, punting is the only way to go here! Line up your shot
to the nearby lake and let your turtle fly! Do this with five turtles
and the quest will auto complete and you will be offered a new quest;

We all remember that
nasty molten turtle by the name of Nemesis who was banished back to the
Firelands earlier in the Hyjal quest chain. But even though he is
“dead” he just doesn’t want to stay that
way! It is time to put a stop to his nastiness once and for all. Head
to the shores of Ashen Lake and seek out Tooga (the love sick turtle
from Tanaris). Tooga will instruct the children of Tortolla to summon
Nemesis with their adorable bubble beams.

Nemesis will emerge from the portal and you will engage him in combat.
Don’t worry about taking out this big guy you have some help.
Use the Totem of Tortolla that was provided to you by Tooga to mitigate
the damage from Nemesis’s Molten Fury ability, otherwise you
will find yourself quickly roasted. Use the Totem for refuge however,
and Nemesis will quickly be defeated. Return to Mylune at the Sanctuary

them, and a vehicle bar will appear on your screen. You will have two

bear. Right click on the bear to pick it up. Once you have a bear climb
to the top of the tree, a new option will appear on your vehicle bar;

option. Climb down and repeat until you either run out of bears in that

Mylune loves all the
creatures of the forest in her own “special” way,
however, the spiders from the Firelands are beyond even her kind of

Pyrachnis who has a nasty bite and even nastier poison. Use the gem to
dispeld the poison and proceed to squish this level 85 elite spider
good and dead. Return to Mylune once the job is done.
