Eating and drinking are things crucial to life--your character's life that is. Food in World of Warcraft can increase your health and give your character beneficial effects (buffs). Drinks can increase your mana, enabling you to have a ready arsenal of spells for the next fight.

Types of Food and Drink

A variety of food and drinks are available in the game. You can eat meat, vegetables or fruit. There's raw food as well as cooked. Drinks are varied also. Water, tea, milk and wine are only a few of the choices.

There are different levels of food and drink. Most food and drink have a level requirement for use. You might think of it as the game's way of asking to see your ID. If you are not high enough level, no drinks for you. You can see how much health a food item will give you by mousing over the item. If the food provides any type of buff, the effect and duration will be listed in the item information as well.

Consuming Food and Drink

You consume food and drink by right-clicking on the item in your inventory. This will cause your character to sit. You must sit for the duration noted in the item information to get the full effect of the food or drink.

A small note of warning, however: consuming some foods and drinks (namely Savory Deviate Delight and Noggenfogger Elixir) can cause unexpected effects.

Where to Find Food and Drink

There's a variety of places to find food and drinks. You can buy it from one of the many vendors throughout the game that sells food and drink. You can sometimes find it as loot on a corpse. The secondary professions of fishing and cooking will enable you to supply yourself with a variety of foods. Foods that provide the well-fed buff come from the cooking skill. Rogues can make a special drink called Thistle Tea that instantly restores some energy.

The last way to acquire food or drink is to beg a mage for some. This class has gained the nickname of "vending machine" for a reason. Mages are capable of conjuring food and water that will stay in your inventory until you log out. Be careful though, like most vending machines, mages can be tempermental if not asked politely.

That's about it for food and drink. If you'd like to learn more about fishing/cooking, check out our Cooking and Fishing guides, as well as our Fishing and Cooking: Two Hours to Expert Skill guide.
