Leotheras the Blind |
Leotheras the Blind is the fifth boss that we are looking at in the Serpentshrine Cavern. He is a Blood Elf demon hunter and looks very similar to the trainees found on top of the Black Temple in Shadowmoon Valley. |
Abilities |
Leotheras being a demon hunter has several nasty abilities, however he also has a demon form as he suffers from some form of possession. As a result he has the following abilities:
Dual Forms - Leotheras has two forms. He starts in humanoid form and then changes back and forth between humanoid and demon forms roughly every minute. Once Leotheras is reduced to 15% health, his two forms will split, at which point both halves need to be dealt with at the same time.
Whirlwind - While in human form Leotheras does a whirlwind attack that lasts for 15 seconds. During this time he spins around the room damaging anyone that he makes contact with. The attack hits for roughly 3,000 damage initially and applies a DOT that does another 2,000 damage every 3 seconds for 15 seconds. Lastly once whirlwind stops, he resets his aggro table.
Chaos Blast - This is a direct spell damage attack from Leotheras in demon form that hits for very little damage initially. It hits for roughly 200 fire damage to the target and a small AOE around it. However it also applies a stacking debuff that increases fire damage taken by 1675 for 45 seconds that can stack up to 20 times!
Inner Demon - This ability targets 5 random players roughly 1/2 way through each of Leotheras's demon phases. When hit with this attack those 5 players will have "inner demons" spawned from them. These are MOBs that only that player can damage that spawn with roughly 11,000 health. You have roughly 30 seconds to kill your inner demon before Leotheras changes back to humanoid form. If you do not destroy your inner demon by that time, when he changes you will be mind controlled for the next 10 minutes or until they are killed (it is not removable in any other way).
Enrage - Once the fight lasts 10 minutes, Leotheras will enrage and start one-shotting players.
Preparation and Basics |
This has a potential of being a very healer intensive fight, however you still need solid DPS. You need a minimum of seven healers just in case you get the worst case scenario of all five being subjected to inner demons. In addition your healers really need to adjust their gear for this fight to have enough +spell damage to be able to drop an inner demon in the require 30 seconds. A good base number is someplace between 300 and 400 +spell damage. This can be tricky while still gearing for a long fight.
In addition to the normal tanks, you will also need a Warlock to tank him during the demon phase where his only attack is the ranged fire blast. This way you can have the Warlock of in the distance away from everyone else so that melee can continue DPS'ing Leotheras down without suffering from the AOE component. It is recommended that you have over 300 fire resist for this fight.
Tactics |
The fight is not that difficult compared to may of the other fights, but is a test of everyone's ability individually. Your ability will be tested when dealing with your inner demons, avoiding the whirlwinds, and your ability to not pull aggro after the many aggro resets.
After each whirlwind, anyone with the bleed debuff on them will need to healed quickly so that they survive. It can also be removed with the paladin bubbles or mage ice block abilities.
Also ensure that after each whirlwind the tank is allowed to establish aggro before engaging. Hunter misdirects can really help with this.
For the inner demon phase, it is importance that all support classes gear themselves well enough to be able to do 11,000 damage in 30 seconds so that they are not mind controlled. Anyone with a pet (hunters, locks, and even priests) must also make sure that they kill the demon, not their pet, or they will still be mind controlled.
Once Leotheras is reduced to 15% his demon form will separate from him, and have 100% health. He needs to be picked up and tanked by your warlock, luckily he will no longer summon inner demons. Leotheras himself will still only have the 15% life. Focus on Leotheras and burn him down, when he dies, his demon form will despawn.
