Lord Kazzak Outdoor Raid Boss Encounter
Location: Lord Kazzak is located in the Blasted Lands zone in southern Azeroth, specifically the Tainted Scar portion of the zone. Kazzak resides in the southwest portion of The Scar, right beside a noticeable crater in the ground.
Time: Due to the fact that Kazzak is an outdoor raid encounter, the time taken to beat him depends on several factors; including, how long it takes to reach the zone with a full group, if there are other groups present, and how many attempts it takes to beat him.
Levels: Kazzak is a high level outdoor raid boss and should be approached with at least 30 level 60 characters. More may be required, however be wary of taking a full 40-man raid unless you are on a PvE server (as per Kazzaks Anti-zerg abilities below).
Screenshots: We have a gallery for screen shots from the Kazzak Raid Encounter that can be found in our Raids Gallery.
Abilities: Lord Kazzak has several special abilities that make him a unique encounter compared to other mobs.
Shadow Bolts: Lord Kazzak has an AoE with an obscene range that hits everyone in range with shadow bolts that deal roughly six to eight hundred damage to all those hit.
Cleave: For those who are engaged in melee with Kazzak, he attacks with a powerful cleave attack that will usually be followed up by shadow bolts.
Curse: This curse effect of Kazzak heals Kazzak 25000 HP every time he attacks someone. Once targeted by this curse you will glow green and be extremely noticeable. Thus if you have this on you and Kazzak deal you damage, BANG, he get 2500 HP back! Please note, only Mages & Druids can remove this curse effect.
Mark of Kazzak: This magic targets casters and causes them to lose mana over time. Once the caster loses all this mana they explode; hitting everyone in range for 6000 damage. Priests & Paladins can remove this magic effect.
Death Healing: Whenever Kazzak kills someone; the demon lord will immediately regain 75000 HP. Currently even characters that do not have Kazzak tapped and die by his AoE will contribute to this.
SUPREME Mode / Anti-Zerg: If Kazzak is not defeated within 3-5 minutes of being tapped by a raid, or if he is engaged by more then 40 characters at once; Kazzak will go into Supreme Mode. When in Supreme Mode, Kazzak will spam his Shadow Bolt AoE so quickly that there is no hope to survive. You will know when this occurs as Kazzak will yell that Kazzak is supreme!.
Tactics: From the list of the abilities above, you may notice that Kazzak is a highly unique encounter, with abilities that make standard zerg tactics unfeasible. So here are some tips to beating the demon lord.
-Ensure that your MT (Main Tank) has agro from the lord, and then he turns the demon around so that the majority of the party is attacking him from behind; thus negating the damage of his cleave abilities.
-Every group must have a dispeller assigned to it. The curses that Kazzak casts if unchecked will cause wipes. If Mark of Kazzak goes off and someone explodes that will mean a wipe for the group. Stay on top of the curses.
-Make sure not to spread out. Spreading out will make the job of the dispellers much more difficult.
-Healers need to keep tabs on all members of the raid and not just the Main Tank. If any member of the raid dies, Kazzak will regain a large amount of health. Be sure to keep everyone healed.
-Cloth/Leather armored characters are advised to bring a Greater Potion of Shadow Invulnerability, as it will negate the first 2-3 shadow bolt AoEs.
-DPS non-casting characters should bring some Elixers of Demonslaying to increase damage they deal, as DPS is critical to the battle.
-Dismiss any pets that you may have. The death of these pets will only heal Kazzak and make things more difficult. DO NOT use a Barov Peasant caller!
-Mages need to be continually casting damage spells, and immediately halt casting if someone is cursed. While the battle is timed and needs to be quickly, curses will wipe the group and need to be dealt with.
-Remember that this boss may take a few tries to get a set plan down for your group. Getting frustrated will only make the encounter more difficult.
Raid Composition: A raid of 35 level 60s is the recommended amount of players to take when fighting Kazzak while on a PvP Server. On a PvE server, due to recent griefing rulings, you should be ok to take a full 40 man raid group.
Each group will need to have at least one mage and one priest/paladin for dispelling. Make certain that you nominate a Main Tank to fight the demon lord, and a secondary tank to take agro in case something occurs to the Main Tank.
For general composition, just be sure to have a good number of mixed classes, as DPS and healing will be needed to succeed against the various abilities of Kazzak.
