The Division 2 has a simple, but valuable crafting system. Although it lacks depth, its value is in allowing you to pursue specific bonuses on items, while repeatedly crafting them to get the one you want. Not only that, but if you aren’t receiving specific items that you need in order to min/max your loadout, heading to the crafting station can prove valuable.

Unlock Crafting

When you first start the game, crafting is locked. You’ll need to complete the early story mission, Grand Washington Hotel. Once completed, you can speak to - and unlock - Inaya al-Khaliq. Doing so allows her to return to the White House, where she’ll set up shop just next door to the Quartermaster.

Materials

To craft anything in The Division 2, you need crafting materials. In total, there are 21 (we think!), ranging from common (green) to legendary (yellow). Weaker equipment utilises low level materials, while higher level gear - as you reach World Tiers 3 and 4 - require much rarer materials. The full list includes:

  • Airaldi Holding Alcemene Resin
  • Alps Summit Armament Durability
  • Badger Tuff Textile Fur
  • Carbon Fiber
  • Ceramics
  • China Light Industries Corporation FZP Mesh
  • Douglas & Harding Uisge Yarn
  • Electronics
  • Fenris Group AB Trasor Cloth
  • Murakami Kozane
  • Overlord Armaments Protection Material
  • Pistol: Trigger and Mechanism
  • Polycarbonate
  • Printer Filament
  • Protective Fabric
  • Providence Defense Grade 3 Fibers
  • Receiver Components
  • Richter & Kaiser GmbH Shielding
  • Steel
  • Titanium
  • Wyvern Wear Custom Weave

Each of the enemy factions has a specific material they control, or drop, while elite enemies in Stronghold’s drop Epic and Legendary components. For example, Hyenas control polycarbonate while Outcasts drop ceramics and titanium.

In most instances, simply playing, scavenging, and salvaging your equipment (armor, weapons, mods) will net you a significant quantity of materials for late-game crafting. While on the subject of salvaging, I’d recommend you always do so over selling (unless you've reached material cap), and that you also obtain the Materials Perk at the Quartermaster. These two Perks allow you to obtain more materials from items you break down, while also increasing the chances of rare materials on salvaging. For boosting you raw material numbers, it's invaluable.

Blueprints

Without a blueprint, you can’t create weapons, armor, or mods. Blueprints are primarily obtained through loot drops, completing primary or side missions, as well as events in the game world.

To establish which missions or events drop which Blueprints, simply open your map and hover over the location. As noted below, the Drone Crash Site Side Mission offers a Weighted 7.62 Mag upon completion.

Where weapons are concerned, these tend to be given during Strongholds, or Progression on your base of operations. Once obtained, any Blueprint will be instantly added to your crafting bench.

To craft a weapon, simply select the Blueprint of your choice and hit [X]. You'll then create the item, based on the rarity available, and be given a random bonus on armor, and a random bonus/talent on weapons. The higher the rarity of weapon/armor you're creating, the more roll slots you'll have available. Unfortunately, and such is the nature of RNG, you can't guarentee the rolls you'll get on the items you make, meaning repeat creations late game are a must.

E-Credits

To craft anything in Division 2, you need E-Credits. These can be obtained from selling any items you have at a vendor, completing missions, or events. E-Credits are incredibly easy to get, and once you've reached your material cap, selling spare poor items is a viable way of ensuring you always have enough to craft. Just be aware that crafting costs do increase based on the Blueprint, and if you're after a specific bonus, you're going to need a lot of E-Credits if you want to repeatedly re-roll.
