Demonology Talent Guide

Welcome to our Demonology Talent Guide. This talent tree used to be top tier for PvP'ing, especially in Arena settings, but has been toned down some since then. Now, it got a revamp in terms of spells and abilities, as well as new reasons to go further down the tree if you want to give your group several special perks.

As a Demonology Warlock, it is important you know that you will be harder to kill than Affliction or Destruction Warlocks, but this power comes at a price. You deal substantially less damage with less DoTs and less special moves for yourself, but your summoned demons give you and your party (or raid) a unique set of buffs that could definitely turn the tide of battle in several situations. As always, if you have any questions or comments, you should visit our Warlock Forums, and ask away!

Return to the Warlock Talent Guide. The Warlock Talent guide contains the links to the Affliction and Destruction Talent guides along with resources to better help you understand talents and the best ways to go about spending your talent points.

Tier 1

Tier 1 is available at level ten, when your first talents open up.

  • Improved Healthstone

You recover more HP through your Healthstone

    • Good for PvP

    • Recommended for PvP players
  • Demonic Embrace

Increases your total stamina by a percentage.

    • Percentage amount is great, means more numbers. Always ideal to have more health, this means more Life Taps and more survivability.
    • Must Have
  • Improved Imp

Increases the effect of your Imp's Firebolt, Fire Shield and Blood Pact, making it overall
better to have your Imp out.

    • Good bonus for PvE, but situational

Tier 2

Tier 2 talents are available as soon as you have 5 points in that talent tree.

  • Improved Health Funnel

More health for your pet per second with your health funnel, and less damage taken by it as you channel your spell in.

    • Strictly for PvP use, there's no reason to heal your pet like this in a PvE setting.
    • Takes life away from you, make sure you can spare it.
    • PvP Use
  • Demonic Brutality

Improves all of your Voidwalker's skills, and Improves the Demonic Frenzy effect from your Felguard

    • Not really all that great for either use - Voidwalkers and Felguards aren't top choices for either setting at the time.
    • Situational, slight use for leveling

  • Fel Vitality

Increases your Demon's stamina AND your own maximum health by a percentage amount.

    • More HP means less time kissing the floor, for both you and your demon buddy.

    • Must-Have

Tier 3

Tier 3 talents are available as soon as you have 10 points in that talent tree.

  • Improved Succubus

Reduces the cast time of your Succubus's seduction and lesser invisibility, increasing their durations as well.

    • Very situational talent - people seldom use their Succubus for these ends at max level.

    • Skip this Talent

  • Soul Link

Nerfed once more, but up here in Tier 3. You'd have to be crazy not to get this talent, regardless of your goals. Splits 20% of the damage you take with your demon, until either one dies.

    • If there's such a thing as a PvP talent, it's this one. It may also prolong your survivability in PvE

    • Must Have

  • Fel Domination

Mana cost for your next demon summon is lessened by 50%, and nearly 6 seconds faster for 1 point.

    • Do you have to resummon your pet in PvP? Did your pet die fighting that boss? No problem, use this ability and resummon it right away.

    • Must Have

  • Demonic Aegis

Increases the effectiveness of your Demonic and Fel Armors by 30%, meaning more armor, or better health recovery from spells overall.

    • Great talent overall for groups and PvP, who doesn't like being healed for high amounts or having more armor?

    • Must Have

Tier 4

Tier 4 talents are available as soon as you have 15 points in that talent tree.

  • Unholy Power

Increases your pet's damage by up to 20%

    • PvP talent, every single damage point counts.
    • Leads into both Demonic Sacrifice and Master Demonologist.

    • Must Have

  • Master Summoner

Reduces your overall casting time and mana cost of your summoning spells.

    • PvP talent - reviving your pet or swapping out for a new one is possible if it casts faster, less mana is best, too.

    • Recommended for PvP

Tier 5

Tier 5 talents are available as soon as you have 20 points in that talent tree.

  • Demonic Sacrifice

Sacrifices your demon for a buff that will either give you more fire power (Imp), health regen (Voidwalker), more shadow damage (Succubus), mana regen (Felhunter), or health and damage (felguard)

    • One of the better PvE talents, also great for solo play. Not sitting to drink or recover health is great!

    • Recommended
  • Master Conjuror

Improves both your Spellstone and Firestone

    • While Blizzard has tried to Improve both Spellstones and Firestones, this talent remains sadly underwhelming.

    • Skip

Tier 6

Tier 6 talents are available as soon as you have 25 points in that talent tree.

  • Mana Feed

When you gain mana from either Life Tap or Drain Mana, your pet receives 33% of the mana you receive.

    • Great for PvP settings when your pets may be running on empty for several reasons - keeping your pet's mana up is great.

    • Situational for PvE, great for PvP
  • Master Demonologist

Grants both you and your pet extra abilities such as threat reduction (Imp), damage reduction (Voidwalker), shadow damage (Succubus), spell damage taken (Felhunter) and
damage dealt/damage taken (felguard) by a set amount.

    • A buff for both you and your pet, why not take it? This also leads to Demonic Empowerment, a very handy talent.

    • Must Have

  • Improved Enslave Demon

Reduces the penalties on your Enslave Demon spell, and reduces the chance for this spell to be resisted.

    • Enslave Demon is seldom useful, and in either setting it won't be needed as much as to reduce its effectiveness ratio.

    • Skip

Tier 7

Tier 7 talents are available as soon as you have 30 points in that talent tree.

  • Demonic Resilience

Reduces the chance you will be critically hit and reduces all damage your demon takes.

    • Arena talent, anyone? If PvP is your game, you must get this talent. This makes, if anything, your pet more resilient to being focused on.

    • Must Have for PvP
  • Demonic Empowerment

This ability gives a new trick to each of your demons,
from making your Succubus instantly invisible, to increasing your Voidwalker's health, dispelling every debuff from your Felhunter, increasing your Imp's crit chance, or increasing your fel guard's attack speed.

    • Great overall talent for one point - why not have an extra trick up your sleeve?

    • Must Have

  • Demonic Knowledge

Increases your spell damage by a percentage of your pet's total stamina and intellect.

    • Harder hitting spells for having a demon out. Is there ever a time you don't have one out? Use this talent

    • Must Have

Tier 8

Tier 8 talents are available as soon as you have 35 points in that talent tree.

  • Demonic Tactics

Increases both your and your summoned demon's melee and spell critical strike chances by up to 10%

    • Awesome talent this far in, both you and your pet benefit from this greatly - be aware, though, that resilience will make your critical strikes hit less often and for less overall.
    • Leads into Improved Demonic Tactics

    • Must Have for PvE, Great for PvP
  • Fel Synergy

Your demon shares more of your armor, intellect, stamina, and you have a 50% chance to heal your pet whenever you take damage for a fraction of the damage you received.

    • PvP talent written all over this, excellent too - you keep your pet up, and it gains more of your stats! The more you grow, the more they grow, too.

    • Must Have for PvP

Tier 9

Tier 9 talents are available as soon as you have 40 points in that talent tree.

  • Improved Demonic Tactics

Increases your demon's critical strike rating by a percentage of yours.

    • Demon critical strikes aren't as Important as yours, further Improving your demon's crits isn't essential unless you're maxing Demonic Pact. If you are, you're probably thinking of PvE.

    • Recommended for PvE, Skip for PvP

  • Summon Felguard

Allows you to summon a Felguard

    • A trusty companion for later PvE endeavors, better tank and damage than your Voidwalker. Some PvP utility like a charge stun as well.

    • Recommended

  • Demonic Empathy

When you or your pet are critically hit, the other's damage done is increased for their next 3 spells.

    • Once more, this is a purely PvP ability as a caster should not be taking damage, neither should his pet, otherwise.

    • Recommended for PvP

Tier 10

Tier 10 talents are available as soon as you have 45 points in that talent tree.

  • Demonic Pact

Your pet's critical strikes apply Demonic Pact to your party or raid, increasing your spellpower by a percentage of up to 10% of your spellpower for up to 12 seconds.

    • A bold attempt to try to make Demonology a good spec to also group with, and it works. A spellpower buff every time your pet crits can't be neglected, if it has the liberty to be swinging at your enemy constantly, that is - this would ideally be used by a demon such as an Imp or a Felguard. If you like this talent and want to benefit your raid more, also grab Improved Demonic Tactics.

    • Must Have for PvE, situational for PvP

Tier 11

Tier 11 is the top tier talent and is available as soon as you have 50 points in that talent tree.

  • Metamorphosis

Illidan form. Yeah, as you heard, you transform into a small version that looks like a shadow of Illidan. You gain new spells and abilities, your armor increases substantially and you may still cast your old spells as well. The downside? it lasts 30 seconds, and it has a generous cooldown.

    • Great to avoid being focused on PvP - Demon abilities make you harder to kill, but overall, 30 seconds outside of a PvP setting is really negligible.
    • Get this if you want to PvP and survive longer, your new moves won't help you much in a PvE setting.

    • Situational (PvE), Recommended (PvP)
