Guild Advancement is a feature introduced in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm which allows guilds to work cooperatively in order to gain various rewards or benefits. As a guild works together, either by questing, doing dungeons, or a myriad of other solo or group activities, they gain “Guild Experience” which works towards leveling the guild up granting access to various rewards. Additionally, “Guild Achievements” allow a guild to do something spectacular and gain the appropriate rewards for it. “Guild Reputation” makes sure only contributors to the guild can receive the rewards that the guild works hard towards obtaining.

Guild Experience

Various activities grant Guild Experience which is used to level the guild up. This in turn works towards unlocking various “Guild Perks” that give additional experience, faster movement speed, or other intrinsic abilities to all guild members (regardless of their reputation). The following activities reward guild experience:

  • Turning in a quest that gains experience.
  • Gaining faction with a reputation.
  • Profession advancement.
  • Boss Kills in which the majority of the raid is in the guild (4/5 for 5-player, 8/10 for 10-player, and 20/25 for 25-player current or 10/25 for 25-player for Vanilla/TBC/WotLK raids)
  • Rated Battlegrounds (8/10 for 10-player, 12/15 for 15 player battlegrounds).
  • Arena Victories (full guild team required)

There is a daily limit to the amount of experience a guild is able to earn. 6,246,000 is the current cap, which means that a guild can only level at a certain rate. It takes roughly four months of hitting the cap each day to take a guild from level one to level twenty five.

Guild Perks

Each level a guild obtains grants a new “Guild Perk” that is useable by everyone in the guild (with only a few requiring guild reputation). Guild Reputation

Guild Reputation is a way to prove that you’ve been helping the guild work towards unlocking rewards and earning experience. Every time you do something like turn in a quest or assist in a guild boss kill you are rewarded with “Guild Reputation.”  This reputation works like any other regular reputation with the exception that there is a weekly reputation cap of 3,500 or 3,850 for Humans (more of the reputation perks are earned in the guild). Guild Reputation is required for the use of some of the Guild Perks in addition to being able to purchase the rewards from various guild achievements.

Guild Leveling Guide

Guild rewards provide great incentive to level a guild.
It’s no secret that most guilds out there want to get their guilds to the max level as fast as possible. However, Blizzard removed the additional experience from earning Guild Achievements so everyone is stuck moving at the same pace. There is nothing more any one player can do to increase the rate that their guild levels past their cap. However, for speedy leveling all it takes is to have an active guild that has players questing (no matter if they’re level one or level 85), doing dungeons, and PvPing.

Below are five tips on how to get that guild XP bar moving:

  • Do not discourage inviting low level alts to your guild. If someone is playing their alt then they are earning experience for the guild, no matter how little they contribute.  That experience would have never existed if that alt was not allowed to join the guild.
  • Encourage group daily questing in zones like Tol Barad.
  • Encourage group dungeon runs, having just four guild members in a random dungeon queue means you’ll get additional experience (and reputation!) for something everyone was going to do anyway.
  • Find ways to get the guild to do events together. Seasonal events often are a wealth of quests, faction gains, and more.
  • Encourage raiding as a guild; even if it is a casual guild, you can still take those interested in casual raiding and band together to tackle 10-player content instead of everyone trying to PUG it. Plus, you’ll work towards guild achievements to unlock even more rewards.

Well that’s pretty much everything there is to the Guild Advancement system in World of Warcraft. What do you think? Should Blizzard have made it easier for guilds to level up or is the current system “just right.” Come share your thoughts on the Ten Ton Hammer community forums.
