Heroes of the Storm 2015 World Champions, Cloud9, have officially disbanded. As the second Cloud9 team to depart from the MOBA genre in recent months (their DOTA2 division also split). I have to admit, the news hasn't come as a shock. If anyone has followed Cloud9's recent performances, they haven't been great. In fact and considering they were once World Champions, they've been downright poor at times and stood little chance against the likes of MVP Black. Although the Heroes of the Storm eSports scene is small, there's still considerable money to be made. The Summer Global Championship, set to take place at DreamHack Sweden next week has a $500,000 prize pool. That's plenty of money for a 5 man team and its sponsor.

The official statement can be found here, with the team going on to state:

It is with great difficulty that we announce the dissolution of the Cloud9 Heroes of the Storm division. As of today, Cloud9 will no longer field a competitive Heroes of the Storm roster. We'd like to thank the fans, sponsors, and players who supported us over the last twenty months and put us on the path to victory at both BlizzCon events. It isn't yet set in stone what each member will choose to do next, but you can stay up to date with each player on their respective social channels by clicking their portrait below.

Whatever does become of the Cloud9 rosta, there's unquestionably a great deal of talent but changes to the team combined with some defeats may have been enough to knock the confidence out of them. We wish them all well.
