Blizzard's next link in the beloved Diablo series, Diablo III, is finally coming to the end of a long development journey. Today, Blizzard announced Diablo III's release date--May 15, 2012--when players will be able to "return to Tristram to discover the dark secrets of a fallen star and begin their quest to save Sanctuary from the impending demonic invasion."

This launch news comes on the tail of Blizzard's announcement that Diablo III will ship without the arena style PvP system that players have been looking forward to because the system doesn't yet measure up to Blizzard's development standards. The decision was made to prevent any further launch delays, and arena PvP will be added to the game in a post-launch update.

World of Warcraft players interested in getting Diablo III for free can still get in on the World of Warcraft Annual Pass, but the promotion will be ending at 12:01 a.m. PDT on May 1, 2012. When you sign up for the Annual Pass and make a 1-year commitment to World of Warcraft, you’ll receive a free digital copy of Diablo III, an exclusive World of Warcraft in-game mount (Tyrael’s Charger), as well as access to the upcoming World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria beta test. Learn more at the Annual Pass signup page.

With or without arena PvP, gamers around the world now have an excuse to call in sick to work or school come May 15th.
