The backdoor play has gained a lot of notoriety in the MOBA genre, and is often the source of some the most exciting and intense moments in those games. It involves one player sneaking their way into the enemy base and trying to end the game while the opposing team is distracted with what's happening elsewhere on the map. Perhaps the most famous instance involved Fnatic's xPeke, back at IEM Katowice in 2013:

However, some Abathur players have found a way to pull this off with fairly minimal risk. This method involves using Toxic Nest to gain vision of the enemy base, then tunneling into it. Once there, Abathur would use the Locust Brood to swarm the base with locusts, then Hearthstone out. This meant he could deal massive damage to the enemy base, and doesn't even need to be physically present, meaning there's very little risk unless someone on the enemy team is just sitting around waiting for him to do this. Given that essentially being AFK in your own base is generally a sub-optimal strategy, the window Abathur has to pull this off is usually quite large. While the strategy is not without its flaws, players have become frustrated with it, and Blizzard hears their cries for change:

Those four little words from Dustin Browder are exactly what many players were waiting to hear. What exactly will be changed remains to be seen, but at least now we know that Abathur will soon have to use the front door, just like everyone else.
