As part of EA’s recent quarterly earnings report, the publisher revealed that the recent release of Star Wars: The Old Republic (SWTOR) has shattered its expectations. According to the report, more than 2 million units of the game have been sold since its December launch and more than 1.7 million players have chosen to subscribe to the game.

EA Labels President Frank Gibeau stated during the call that SWTOR game subscribers are described as all players with an active account either paying a subscription, currently using the game’s one month free trial that comes with a purchase and using pre-paid time cards. Those not included are players that have not activated their accounts or have chosen to cancel their subscriptions. Gibeau stated that SWTOR currently sees as many as 1 million unique logins a day and averaging play sessions of about 4 hours.

The game's current success will undoubtedly fuel the fiery rivalry that seems to exist between the World of Warcraft and SWTOR communities. The upside is that we’ll probably be treated to more amusing content from Blizz Blues about it.
