Metaplace opens for something ambiguous.

In true Metaplace subtlety, Cuppycake announced today that her employer Metaplace has changed a bit of their splash page to include a beta application. For those of you who haven't kept up, or are like me and just don't get it, according to their website:

"Metaplace gives you the power to create, share, and live in your own unique virtual world. Hang out with friends, build your space, grow your community, and have fun. It's not just for techies anymore — it's for everyone who uses the Web today."

Huh? How is that different than MyFaceSpaceBook.ning/linkedin?

The founder and spiritual godfather of Metaplace is Raph Koster. He has presented numerous renditions of how Metaplace is an incarnation of his "Theory of Fun for Game Design" wrapped up in a cloak of social networking. Apparently the idea is to provide the tools for people to create their own virtual worlds and invoking their creative process because who better to dictate what is each individual's fun but themself? My teeny tiny little non-creative brain just doesn't get it. I like to play what other people create. I need recipes to cook, and I need music to read, I'm not a creative person. Maybe I'm not the primary target for this game/social experiment. Are you?
