I understand that state budgets are currently worse off than a staunch republican in a vegan restaurant, but now they may be going too far. Democratic NY Governor David Paterson has proposed a new tax on downloaded content. This means that songs, movies, games and other electronically delivered entertainment will be encumbered by this tax. The revenue from porn alone should solve the state's woes, right? So many thoughts come to mind with two in particular; policing and piracy. How are they going to police this? Will this promote piracy? It appears that state governments around the country are grasping at any and all revenue options, so expect similar tactics to show up in your area at some point.
