How Far Would You Go?
by Charabis
Moving is a stressful time for anyone. Recently, it was my time to do so for school. I figured it was time to move on with my life, and continue chasing my dreams. I'm
attending school for Multimedia and Game Design, so it's not hard to figure out what my goals are.
As luck would have it, soon after I moved, Perpetual Entertainment began advertising for a Junior Community Manager. Of course you have to live in the San Francisco Bay area,
which left me out. It still would have been tempting to skip returning to school and go for it, making a second move in just two weeks. Unfortunately, there's those darned
leases to think about. If there had been a way, I'd have gone for it in a heartbeat. As it was, it was just another missed opportunity, but it got me thinking about the
lengths that myself, and other are willing to go to to work in the gaming industry.
Which leads us to this weekend's Weekend Wonder : How far would you go to get into gaming? Keep in mind that question covers a lot of ground as there's a lot involved in the
gaming industry--Programmers, artists, community managers, developers, advertising, playtesting, and so on. Some of those positions also exist outside the developers' site,
such as the Community Managers here at Ten Ton Hammer. With so many choices, most people can think of at least one they'd like to do!
So, over the weekend think a bit on how far you'd be willing to go, in terms of distance as well as sacrifices, to get into the gaming industry. Then come discuss it on our
