Ruinous Effigy Exotic Trace Rifle – Tips and Tricks

Destiny 2: Season of Arrivals is going strong, and with it, July has brought along a pretty appealing new artefact. The Ruinous Effigy is an exotic weapon that’s become an exclusive addition to the game for anyone with a full pass for the season.

This enemy-orbing trace rifle is one of the most intriguing claims in the game. Not only for the fact that it’s pretty rare, and that you’re going to have to grind to get it, but that it’s the only chance you’re going to have against all of Savathun’s Eyes.

In this guide, we’re going to take a look at how you can use this rarity effectively in the game once you’ve put yourself aside enough time to get your hands on it. When you’re not playing online casino games (such as here) or actively exploring the rest of the new game’s goodies, you’re going to need to try and get to grips with this new weapon. Here are a few tips and tricks.

Use Orbs to Your – and Others’ - Advantage

While it might not seem as though transforming foes into orbs is anything special, it’s what you’re going to do with these orbs that really counts. Effectively, once you’ve got a Ruinous Effigy, you’ve got a chance to smash anything you transform into some seriously powerful attacks.

One of the best things you might not know about these resulting orbs is that you don’t have to use the Effigy to manhandle these attacks. Anyone in your party – if you have one – can smash an orb or two. It’s satisfying!

Defend, Defend, Defend

It’s tempting to use the Effigy to attack and to create shockwaves. However, it’s actually pretty handy to use as part of a defensive strategy. Stronghold, another exotic find, combines well with Ruinous Effigy to block attacks.

Not only that, but it effectively makes you invincible for a few short blasts. Think of it as Destiny 2’s own variation on the Mario superstar. Only – a bit more brutal. You can take out enemies while protecting your health at the same time.

Orbs and Timing

Sadly, orbs don’t last forever. There’s not going to be much chance for you to strategise on the move when it comes to grabbing those orbs, meaning it’s worth knowing which moves and manoeuvres are going to drain them most.

Aforementioned defence moves actually drink a lot out of your orbs. However, what you might want to do is drain an orb down to its very last drops, and then smash your heavy move on the right click.

That means you are going to need to make the most of the charging – try and squeeze in a few attacking or defensive moves and save your final burst of energy for a really big move.

Is It All Worth It?

Absolutely. Even though getting the Ruinous Effigy is a real grind – the quest is absolutely worth the time and effort you’re going to put in. Make sure to go on the hunt for it before the season ends.
