Competition has always been an intrinsic part of the gaming experience.
From the head-to-head competition of Pong to the advanced battlefields
of
target="_blank">WAR,
gamers have always sought to defeat one another through wits and guile.
However, many gamers often struggle with lag, latency, and poor frame
rates in their games, making their experience less than enjoyable.
Thankfully, Bigfoot Networks and their Killer NIC products have given
the upper hand to the gamer once again. Ten Ton Hammer's Garrett Fuller
had an opportunity to chat with Bigfoot founder Harlan Beverly and
discover how the Killer NIC cards help the player and what kind of
advancements these cards bring to the table.
So
what does the Killer NIC card do exactly? That was my first question
for Harlan as we spoke about the hardware side of MMOs. According to
Harlan, the Killer NIC card is designed to reduce lag and latency on
your PC while playing online. Every MMO player hates lag; I honestly
cannot think of anyone who might like it. Harlan explained that the
Killer NIC card is a plug and play technology which helps to reduce
ping and boost frame rates. I asked Harlan for numbers which he quickly
gave saying that a Killer NIC card can give a 10-20 millisecond
advantage when a player is in an intense fight online. It also can
improve frame rates by 15-20 frames per second.
