Loading... putting the 'Mo' in MMOG.
First, the Ten Ton Pulse, your finger on the beating heart of the MMOG industry.
If the Top 10 isn't enough, we also show the Top 20 and Top 50 lists as well, available to everyone on our homepage. (What is Pulse?)
- Warhammer Online - 200 BPM
- World of Warcraft - 94 BPM
- Age of Conan - 33 BPM
- Tabula Rasa - 9 BPM
- EVE Online - 9 BPM
- Lord of the Rings Online - 7 BPM
- EverQuest II - 5 BPM
- Dungeons and Dragons - 4 BPM
- Vanguard - 4 BPM
- Champions Online - 3 BPM
WAR 'hammers' every other title into submission with the announcement that their non-disclosure agreement (NDA) has dropped. To put this into perspective for those of you without an eye on actual industry traffic. To the best of my knowledge (and addled memory), World of Warcraft had never dropped below 100 on the Ten Ton Pulse before today. Even Age of Conan at the peak of their
hype never drove WoW below the 100 mark.
By the time you read this we will have not only interviewed the Warhammer Online team, but also captured video of their press conference. On most days that would be more content than you could possibly consume. Intoxicated with anticipation for what this industry has to offer, you would be falling down drunk, inebriated and drooling. Your MMOG hangover is going to get even worse. because we have an interview from *inside* the Stargate Worlds hummer as well as coverage of Age of Conan. Did anyone spill any secrets. Sure they did!
I had originally thrown a bit in here about an absolutely atrocious panel that I had the misfortune to sit though. I pulled it. The show has been a fantastic experience, so why dwell on one negative?
The event truly has been extraordinary. The Warhammer team has done everything in their power to give us as much information about the game as they possibly can. If you have questions, best get them to me so I can pass them on personally (after taking credit for the good ones). Jeff, Josh, Paul, Eugene, Rowland, Mark, Justin and the entire Mythic crew are Grade-A awesome getting three thumbs up from me. Aubrey, Kate and Raine, (I really hope I spelled those names right) get five thumbs up.
Chevron five is locked! Dan Elggren of Stargate Worlds knocked his interview out of the park. Dan is a genuinely nice guy who as industry personalities go has been overlooked. This job is fun when we get to work with people like Dan.
When we weren't driving around Leipzig in hummers we were visiting the Funcom team to get an Age of Conan 'State of the Game'.
I also have some absolutely enormous news coming (especially for our Premium Members), that I can't disclose just yet. It's eating me up not be able to spill the beans, but I've been threatened to keep quiet. Keep watching this column and the site. Premium Members you are going to be very, very happy. I guarantee it!
[Just a quick note to apologize for some bad links, poor writing and overall messiness in the column lately. Our team is working 16-20 hour days at the Leipzig show, trying to get as much information out to you in as short a time as we possibly can. We already have more content posted about the show than most sites will post in total. It's challenging to work at that pace from our home country, at our own desks, in familiar surroundings. It is an entirely new degree of challenge to attempt to deliver this much content from a country where most of your electronics can't even be plugged in without conversion. To put it all in perspective, the experience is so foreign that we couldn't even figure out how to open the doors to our hotel rooms. We're still trying to figure out how to turn off the lights without turning off all the power to our rooms. No joke.
Thanks for your patience and thank you for the hundreds of positives emails that I have received. Our team appreciates that you let us into your homes. When we are talking to a developer it is always with the notion in mind that it is for you. So again, from the Ten Ton Hammer team to you, our apologies and an enormous thank you!]
