I was disappointed to read that City of Heroes/Villains is being shut down in Korea. It is doing very well here in North America. Perhaps calling it "City of Angel" was the problem? ;) There are very few games that have made the transition from West to East successfully. Likewise the transition from the Asian market to North America has enjoyed its share of failures. Then again, there is that title that everyone says is in decline. It has done well in every market it entered. Must be a fluke. World of Warcraft sure got lucky, or so many people would like you to believe.
A quick look at the upcoming games that have my attention doesn't give me much hope for a East/West success story.
Gods and Heroes has a shot, but Asian mythology is different than that we follow in North America. Will Roman mythology appeal to the Asian gamer?
Warhammer Online might be able to do it. How popular is Warhammer in Asia?
Are pirates sexy in Korea? If so, does Pirates of the Burning Sea have a chance?
The game that might have the best chance is one you may not even have heard of, The Chronicles of Spellborn. Ah well, time will tell.
