The Recluse is one of the most powerful weapons to ever be part of the Destiny 2 universe. This is high praise for a SMG (submachinegun).  

Not only is The Recluse incredibly powerful, but it is a primary weapon and can be used in both PVE and PVP effectively. What makes The Recluse so powerful is a unique perk, Master of Arms. This perk increases your damage when you get a kill with "any" weapon. It also has the perk Feeding Frenzy, which makes reloading faster: more kills, more damage. 

The Season of the Undying artifact also has two mods that benefit The Recluse.   

Firstly, there is a one-cost version of Enchanced Submachine Gun Loader which makes reloading so quick you almost miss it happening.

Secondly, and more importantly, there is Anti-Barrier Rounds.  This allows The Recluse to shred shields, making much of the end game content considerably easier.  

How to Get The Recluse

The quest "From the Mouth of Babes" is obtained from Shaxx (the Crucible bounty guy) in The Tower.  Completing it is time consuming, but not terribly difficult. It's the definition of a grind: essentially you are completing "The Stuff of Myth" Triumph.

You need to reach Fabled rank, and fill the completion bar for wins to 100%.  This can take anywhere from 50 - 100 wins depending on game type. 

Long, yes.  Worth it? YES!
