Warcraft 3 Reforged: Resources Guide

Warcraft 3: Reforged has two resources, Gold and Lumber.  With these, you can create every unit and building in the game. 

Gold is the main resource in Warcraft 3 Reforged. 

How to Get Gold In Warcraft 3 Reforged

Each race mines Gold in Warcraft 3 Reforged by a different means.  Humans and Orcs use their Peasants and Peons to carry the gold from the mine back to their Town Hall.   Night Elves must first "Entangle" the mine with their Tree of Life.  Once the mine is Entangled the Night Elves use Wisps to acquire the gold.  They don't carry it they magically move it to the Tree of Life.  The Undead use a similar method to the Night Elves minus the entangling requirement.  They simply put Acolytes in the mine and they magically extract the gold. 

Human: Put Peasants in the mine - They will carry the gold. 5 Peasants are the optimal amount.  

Orc: Put Peons in the mine. - They will carry the gold. 5 Peons are optimal. 

Night Elf: Entangle the mine with your Tree of Life.  Up to 5 Wisps can extract gold from the mine at once. 

Undead: Up to 5 Acolytes can extract gold from the mine at once. 

What is Upkeep in Warcraft 3 Reforged?

As you build more units you will see an Upkeep message appear on your screen.   This means that you are extracting less gold from your gold mine(s).   It's a "tax" based on the number of units that you have.  The more you have, the larger the tax.  

Taking over additional gold mines gives you the opportunity to increase your gold extraction rate.    These mines are usually guarded by creeps, so it is a risk/reward decision and part of the fun of playing Warcraft 3 Reforged.  

Mines can also run out of gold.  You can literally mine them until there is nothing left.  You will receive a warning on your minimap.  When the mine is dry your workers will sit idle until you give them more to do.  

Gold Tax: The more units you have the less gold is extracted from mines.  Compensate for this by acquiring more mines. 

Low Gold Warning: You will get a warning that your mine is running out.   

How to get Lumber in Warcraft 3 Reforged

Lumber is harvested from the trees that are found nearly everywhere on the maps. 

Lumber is used in the construction of buildings, to gain weapon and armour upgrades and to learn spells and abilities.  

Each race acquires Lumber in Warcraft 3 Reforged by a different means.  Humans and Orcs use their Peasants and Peons to cut and carry the lumber from the treeline back to their Town Hall.   Night Elves use Wisps to circle the trees and extract the lumber. They don't carry it they magically move it to the Tree of Life.  The Undead use Ghouls to cut and carry the lumber.  They are the only race that has a different collection unit for lumber and gold. 

How to Share Resources in Multiplayer Games

In a multiplayer game of Warcraft 3 Reforged players can share resources by using the Allies menu.   A "Trading Fee" is charged, so there is always a  net loss in any trade.
