DnD Vault Interview with Author Elaine Cunningham

DnD Vault has posted an interview with popular Dungeons & Dragons fantasy author Elaine Cunningham, whose books are set in the Forgotten Realm. If you enjoy D&D lore and fantasy fiction, then this interview is for you. Here's a snippet:

  • What is the most challenging aspect of writing fiction based in a Dungeons & Dragons world?

Writing in a shared-world setting is very much like writing historical fiction. Sure, the “history” is entirely fictitious, but it still needs to be consistent with the lore. I started writing under First Edition rules. D&D in now in version 3.5, and some of the rule changes have wreaked havoc on past plots. Game products incorporate bits and pieces of your novels, often in ways you never anticipated. I’d have to say that trying to maintain continuity in an ever-changing world is the biggest challenge.

About The Author

Karen is H.D.i.C. (Head Druid in Charge) at EQHammer. She likes chocolate chip pancakes, warm hugs, gaming so late that it's early, and rooting things and covering them with bees. Don't read her Ten Ton Hammer column every Tuesday. Or the EQHammer one every Thursday, either.
