We’re all devoted to our favorite MMORPGs in our own sick and twisted ways, but some fans take that devotion a bit further. According to a report from Mail Online, one fan in China purchased a one-of-a-kind virtual sword for the upcoming Snail Games developed MMORPG Age of Wulin: Legend of the Nine Scrolls. The fan can start using the sword to slay his enemies once the game goes live.

Snail Games recently hosted an online auction where they sold several items, including the Lordly Spear Sheath that netted another $2,600 and the Hook of Departure for $1,600. But the biggest item, the one-of-a-kind virtual sword fetching $16,000 in cold, hard cash. That is devotion and a fat bank account my friends. At least I hope it’s a fat bank account. It would really suck to have to mortgage your home to buy a virtual sword for a game we don’t even have a clue about the shelf life for yet.
