Whether through the eyes of science fiction or huge telescopes that we insist we've never used to look at our neighbors, geeks have always been looking up towards the heavens for answers.
The stars infatuate us and send our imaginations into hyper drive. What secrets hide just beyond the boundaries of the known universe? What wonders of technology has man yet to discover? Is there life on other planets, and if so will we one day be able to hold out a picture of a green skinned woman and say honestly:
"This is my girl friend from Mars. You don't know her, but she's really hot. We met at camp and she loves only ME."
And knowing the geek brain as we do, it really isn't that far fetched to envision. Men of science who have devoted their entire lives to studying the cosmos, learning the ways of the universe and overcoming the limitations of interstellar travel - just fighting over the joystick and claiming dibs on who gets to go "next". Pulling power slides and building ramps out the equipment that they sent up in order to dig up samples and analyze the Martian soil; completely forgetting the seriousness of their mission until their boss returns and yells at them to get back to work.
