Sometimes the hardest part about playing a class-based RPG is determining which class you want to play first. Diablo 3 is no different to a lot of us, and perhaps more difficult to make that first character than any MMORPG you’ve ever played. So let us hold your hand into hell and help you make your first character in the game 15 years in the making, Diablo 3!

Pros:
- Rage is easy to manage, with lots of generating abilities so long as you hit a target.
- Rage is quick to dump as well, giving the Barbarian serious burst output against enemy elites
- Most durable class, able to give some of that defense to his allies.
Cons:
- Can only dish big damage out in melee
- Doesn’t escape fights unscathed—reliant on red orbs and potions to stay healthy.
Play this class if:
You enjoy horrendously violent knockbacks and shouts. Moreso than the Monk, the Barbarian is all about the smashing of skulls up close and personal.
Pros:
- Dishes out steady ranged damage from afar
- Great control of packs with a multitude of slows
Cons:
- Consumes his resources quickly
- Frail, if an enemy can land a hit, it will hurt
Play this class if:
You’re a Bowazon lover from Diablo 2. You’ll feel right at home with a lot of the abilities, and you have far more control-type skills than you had before.
Pros:
- Has a large resource pool
- Has a horde of minions
- Lots of utility stuff
Cons:
- Mana is awkward once you’ve played the other classes
- Not terribly interactive with his army of pets.
Play this class if:
You’re a bitter Necromancer that wishes he was in this third game. Seriously, a lot of the skills are similar and the minions are arguably even better.
Pros:
- Tough AND mobile, a rare combination
- Just fun to play as
Cons:
- Doesn’t bring as much to a team of adventurers as a Barbarian
- Weapons look strange on him, given most of his attacks are physical limb strikes.
Play this class if:
You want to teleport around making enemies explode. It feels great, trust me.
Pros:
- Capable of huge damage in a hurry
- Resources replenish quickly
Cons:
- Blows everything in 2 seconds and has to use basic attacks for a couple seconds afterwards.
- Dies to a stiff breeze.
Play this class if:
Really, I shouldn’t have to spell this out. If you miss your Frozen Orbs and teleports, you know who you’re rolling come May 15th.
