5. Dead Rising 3

style="font-weight: bold;">Platform:
Xbox One

Release
Date
: November 22nd,
2013

Let’s
face it folks. When it comes to gaming, most gamers want the same thing
in the end and that’s to kick ass, take names, and be a
raging badass. Tie all of this in with the obsessive zombie love many
geeks have and you’ve got a recipe for turning lead into
gold. Screw the idea of turning Walking Dead into an MMO.
I’ve got a better idea! No other game combines the disturbing
shuffle of zombies, the glorified celebration of player ingenuity, and
desire to survive the coming zombie apocalypse like the Dead Rising
series does. Imagine thousands of players running around the country
killing zombies by the dozens in the most creative and imaginative ways
they can imagine. The streets may run red with the constant flow of
zombie blood we’d see, but it would be glorious!

4. The Order: 1866

style="font-weight: bold;">Platform:
PlayStation 4

Release
Date
: To be announced

Over
the past few years, there’s been a big uptake in public
interest of alternate histories. Capitalizing on that theme, The Order
thrusts players into an alternate history version of London, shortly
after the end of the Industrial Revolution. Think of it like Steampunk
on steroids. There are firearms, cobbled together long-distance
communication devices, and an ancient evil that has been hunting
mankind for decades, if not centuries. What little has been shown about
the game so far is interesting as hell, but imagine it as an MMO
instead. Playing with your friends like this would be a Steampunk fan's
wildest dream.

3. Watch Dogs

style="font-weight: bold;">Platform:
Xbox One and PlayStation 4

Release
Date
: November 12th, 2013

Watch
Dogs takes place in a Chicago of the not-so-far-away future where
everyone and everything is connected to the city’s network.
Cultivating the fear that people already have about government
intrusion into their own lives, Watch Dogs takes that premise and
ratchets it up to ten. The main character in the game is a hacker and
former thug, but the setting would make for a great MMO if players had
access to a wide variety of roles they could play. Want to be a hacker?
Great – which side of the law are you going to be on? Battle
against other players in “the Matrix” or go after
corporate targets. Perhaps you’re part of the
city’s law enforcement detail instead and are beating the
streets looking for unpatriotic citizens to take down. There are a lot
of ways one could go with this title. It would be a shame to see a
setting like this go to waste.

2. The Witcher 3

Platform:
Xbox One and PlayStation 4

Release
Date
: To be announced

The world of The Witcher series is fraught with monsters around every
corner, and not all of them are of the supernatural variety. Evil
abounds in the hearts of men and beasts alike in this world for mature
adults. Witchers are humans that have been mutated through horrific
means to become monster hunters and no one is better at getting their
jobs done. This would make a perfect world for a dark and gritty MMO.
Gamers around the globe mostly know The Witcher as a series of video
games, with the upcoming title concluding the legend of Geralt of
Rivia. In fact though, the games came about from a series of books
written by a Polish author named Andrzej Sapkowski. With any luck,
hopefully all of the books will one day be translated into English so
we can enjoy them.

1. Mad Max

Platform:
PlayStation 4

Release
Date
: May 31st, 2014

It’s hard for me to believe it’s been almost 35
years since Mad Max first hit the movie screen. In 1979, video games
were nothing more than a pixelated hobby of geeks and dweebs. Even so,
after all these years, I can’t think of any intellectual
property that has such a rabid fanbase still unfulfilled when it comes
to seeing their dream of playing in the Mad Max universe come to
fruition. If you were to create a desert-ridden post-apocalyptic MMO
world and litter it with roaming gangs of outcasts terrorizing anyone
that managed to survive without a weapon, I’d say,
“Good luck with that.” Putting all this and more
into a Mad Max MMO though is a different story.
