Loot Chests

Loot chests are the new type of reward that you’ll be earning in Heroes of the Storm, similar to the Overwatch loot box system. There are four types of chests you can earn:

Chest Type Reward Reward Frequency Common Anything! Every non-specific Player Level Rare Guaranteed Rare item Every 5 Player Levels Epic Guaranteed Epic item Every 25 Player Levels Hero-specific Guaranteed item for that Hero Every 10 levels with that Hero

Each chest type is guaranteed to award at least one item of that Chest’s rarity level or higher, though even standard Loot Chests have a chance to contain Rare, Epic, or Legendary items. You can reroll Chests up to three times with gold, Common and Rare ones costing 250/500/750, Epic ones costing 500/1000/1500.

Mega Bundles

If you’re just joining us in the Nexus, or looking to expand your Hero pool, Mega Bundles are going to be available for the launch of 2.0*! These bundles each contain 20 Heroes, and have their own unique theme. You can choose between:

Assassin: Filled with Heroes who dish out destructions wherever they go, including Gankers, Mages, Siege, and Marksmen. Flex: Contains a wide variety of heroes, from every role. This is the recommended bundle for new players, as you get a taste for the different playstyles. Support & Specialist: Filled with many of the Support-styles heroes, including some Warrior and Utility Heroes that help your team stay in the fight for the win. Tanks & Bruisers: Filled with Heroes that can take a hit and deal it right back on their own. Mainly melee heroes that do very well in close combat.

Already have some heroes and looking to get the most value? Here is a calculator created by /u/ccKep that can help you get the most bang for your buck.

Currencies:

There are now three different currencies (thanks /u/luskaner) in the game:

Gold: Earned from playing, leveling up, and completing quests Used to purchase heroes Used to reroll loot chests (up to 3 times) Gems: Real money currency, also earned from levelling Used to purchase heroes, featured cosmetics, loot chests, and stimpacks Dollar to gems conversion (thanks /u/BetaKeyTakeaway) Shards: Earned from loot chests and when you get duplicate items Used to craft different cosmetic items for your collection

FAQs:

Should I open my Mega bundle or Loot Chest first?

Definitely open your Mega bundle, as Heroes can be legendary rewards in your loot chests.

Which order should I open my loot chests in?

Open your chests from common to legendary in order of lowest rarity first, as it will make judging your veteran chests easier.

Should I be leveling now, or waiting for Heroes 2.0?

Short answer: unless you want to min-max very heavily with each hero, don’t worry about it. You'll earn loot chests based on your total level when 2.0 launches, as well as loot chests when you level heroes in 2.0. However, if your Heroes 2.0 account level is close to a multiple of 10, then you might be able to squeeze out an extra Epic or Veteran loot chest.

Should I spend my gold now, or wait until 2.0?
